In RoboCop, the year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Overseas, their drones have been used by the military for years, but have been forbidden for law enforcement in America. Now OmniCorp wants to bring their controversial technology to the home front, and they see a golden opportunity to do it. When Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) – a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit – is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp sees their chance to build a part-man, part-robot police officer. OmniCorp envisions a RoboCop in every city and even more billions for their shareholders, but they never counted on one thing: there is still a man inside the machine.
Who doesn’t know RoboCop right? Growing up in the 90s, RoboCop is the childhood hero for most kids.. fighting crime in that metal suit. I’m not a huge fan of RoboCop but I don’t know how or when, I saw RoboCop 2 and being a kid growing into teen, I had a huge crush on Gabriel Damon. If you’ve watched that movie, he’s that badass kid named Hob who at first is like the juvenile apprentice to Cain, but then turned against him after Cain is critically injured in a car crash during the car chase with RoboCop and then ‘stole’ his nuke/drug dealing money and takes control.. well that’s before Cain becomes a robot and massacred everyone during a drug deal gone bad. Ahhhhh I so love that movie. I was obsessed with it because of Hob. But I do think it’s an awesome movie. I am baffled as to WHY on earth it was given a ‘rotten’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes…
A few days ago I saw that they’re remaking RoboCop? What classic movies are not being remade these days? They’re practically remaking every single popular classic movies. After watching the first official trailer, I have a mixed feeling. Making RoboCop black? He may look cool but we all grew up with the silver-black RoboCop. Even in RoboCop 2, you can tell that RoboCop is still trying to figure out about his past as Alex Murphy and his new life as RoboCop… Should I even talk about the excessive CGI in that trailer? Gah.
Hooooooowever. I’m still somewhat excited for it, because it does look awesome if you ignore the fact that it’s a remake. I’m gonna think of it as a new movie instead, not as a remake because that way you won’t keep comparing it with the original. I’m not much of a sci-fi action movie fan, but I’ll give this a chance. I hope they tune up on the CGI though, because in that trailer the enemies look very stiff and animated.. not even fluid.
What do you think?
